Say goodbye to shaving rash

I have to be honest with you, when it comes to electric shavers (or "lady shavers" as they are commonly known, eugh 😷) I'm extremely biased. As someone with permanently sensitive skin, I had to ditch the traditional razor a while back — the constant lobster-red shaving rash and ingrown hairs after every use was too much of a faff. I tried waxing, but it's a pricy habit to keep up with unless you're brave enough to DIY, so, I gave epilating a go.

I take a pretty relaxed approach to hair removal, having stubble on my legs doesn't really bother me, it's natural, normal and IMO it's no big deal. But when I do choose to remove body hair, I want the process to be as painless (literally) as possible.

So, when I finally stumbled upon an electric shaver and I've never looked back. And can we talk about the financial benefits too? Investing in an electric shaver means I can cut down the time I spend in a salon and the amount of £££ I spend replacing razors that go rusty after a few weeks.

Plus, with the Amazon Spring Deal Days sale now live, electric shavers always get some pretty sweet reductions (we’re talking over 50% off our fave models), which makes now the perfect time to pick up a new one.

Well firstly, a traditional manual razor cuts the hair incredibly close to the skin (as you're running the blade directly over your body), this gives a close shave and smooth finish. Most electric shavers have a perforated cover with moving blades inside, that capture hairs and cut them, whilst hair trimmers (commonly used around the bikini line) have blades that oscillate from side to side cutting hairs.

Trust me, if you're sick of ingrown hairs, itchy regrowth, angry red shaving rash and Sahara-dry skin after every shave, then you're probs ready to go electric. Yes, they don't give quite as close a shave as a manual razor, but it's still pretty close, and you don't have to deal with any awful re-growth.

There are so many to choose from, but Braun is known for their epic shaver offering, the majority of its models are incredibly high-quality, particularly the Braun Silk-épil 9. I've been using it for months, and can personally vouch for how effective it is when it comes to hair removal. As you can probably tell from the name, it has both an epilator and a shaver head (so you get two in one). The shaver gives a super-close shave that almost rivals a wet razor, minus all the skin irritations.

If you're after a more budget-friendly option, be sure to check out Magnitone's GoBare! Compact Mini Lady Shaver. The compact rechargeable shaver can be used on wet or dry skin and comes with a USB charging wire that makes it perfect for travel.

But there are plenty of others out there to choose from, so check out the reviews below to find the perfect shaver for you...

Cringe no more at the thought of cutting your bikini line because Panasonic’s five-in-one kit streamlines your routine for not only a simple shave but a clean, gentle and safe* one at that.

With three interchangeable blade attachments, you're able to shave, trim and groom your bikini line with ease; Tackle thick, long hair quickly with the bikini trimmer attachment; achieve a gentle, smooth shave with the bikini shaver; and use the bikini comb for precise grooming.

I've been using this to trim my bikini line in preparation for laser hair removal and I couldn't be happier with the results.

*Attach one of the two skin guards to protect delicate areas when using the bikini trimmer head.

This flexible electric shaver works a treat for removing hair across the body, it's totally showerproof, so can be used on either wet or dry skin.

The rechargeable shaver comes with a comb attachment, so can be used to trim hairs as well as give a close shave. Charging is faff-free, simply stick it on its charging stand and you're good to go. For the price, this shaver is a great buy.

Searching for a shaver that does it all? This one comes with an epilator head, a wide shaver, trimmer head and a mini body trimmer to help you capture those pesky bikini line hairs and hard-to-reach strays.

The epilator head is lined with 40 micro-tweezers to pluck hairs that even a good wax can't uproot, while the pivoting head follows the contours of your body for ultimate smoothness. It might be slightly spennier than your basic model, but in our opinion, it’s defo worth it.

Perfectly portable with a stainless steel blade and flexible head, this might just be the best precision dry shaver out there. It's dinky enough to fit in your makeup bag but the wide shaving blade makes de-fuzzing large surface areas a breeze. Win-win.

This pocket-sized cutie comes with five different attachments, including a precision shaver and the classic (and feared) epilator head. There’s even a built-in light, v handy if you want to get those finer, easy-to-miss hairs.

Unfortunately, she is corded, so you can't stray too far from a plug socket.

This mini shaver is so small, it's practically pocket-size - making it ideal for chucking in your bag and removing facial hair when travelling (oh, and it's battery-powered, so no need to worry about carrying around a charger).

Is there anything better than a 3-in-1? Well, this just might be it.

So, technically this is an epilator but this waterproof device comes with multiple heads, so you can switch from epilating to shaving to exfoliating with minimal effort. It captures hairs as short as 0.5mm (which even a wax strip can't catch), so you can get holiday-ready with ease.

This diddy one had to make the list, because it's designed to look like a lipstick, perfect for carrying in your handbag for whenever the need arises. So cute! But of course we wouldn't recommend any tool that wasn't up to scratch, we'll let the near perfect 5* rating on Amazon speak for itself...

Braun's Silk-épil trimmer has been specifically designed for removing hair around the bikini line. It can be used to easily shave hair, or trim to different lengths thanks to the attachable combs.

The device is battery-operated (you'll just need 1 AAA battery), so it's super portable and travel-friendly.

Cordless, rechargeable and easy to use on either wet or dry skin, this electric shaver has become a fast favourite. With shaving guards to protect against irritations and nicks, it's safe to use on super-sensitive areas.

If you're looking for a handbag-sized hair remover, look no further. Magnitone has managed to do the impossible and make an electric shaver look kinda cute.

The mini shell-shaped shaver is showerproof and can be used wet or dry, it's rechargeable and comes with a handy USB charger. Despite its small size, the battery life is impressive, two hours of charge will give up to 100mins of use - not bad, huh?

If you're looking to remove facial hair, the Dermaflash is worth checking out. The oscillating blades remove surface debris from the skin whilst shaving away any ‘peach fuzz’, leaving skin feeling incredibly smooth.

It's pricey, but it comes with 4 ‘edges’ (blades), alongside a travel-sized cleanser and moisturiser, so you have everything you need to get a silky complexion.

This little baby is all about practicality. It's rechargeable, fully functioning both wet and dry (you can even submerge it in water so works in the tub), and it has an LED light to help you see every little hair.
